If I were a Tree

A quick reflection on my post from a few minutes ago - firstly, I haven't added any poems since starting this blog.  Secondly, I wondered if I will be able to give as much life when I'm gone as the tree is for the fungi.  So I found a poem that I wrote many years ago while wandering through the rainforest on the west coast of Canada.

TREE
By K.A. Duffin

I stand alone
But am not alone

I stand in a crowd
But am not crowded

I have great strength
But
A strong breath
A cold, heavy tear
And your hand

Can break me

The world's tears
Nurture me
The world's doubts
Threaten me

I breathe in
Your ills

I breathe out
Your sustenance

I breathe in
Your growing pains

I breathe out
Your future

My future
Lies in your breath
My future
Lies in your tears
They need purity
To sustain me

Our visions may differ
But still intertwine
We cannot forget
To breathe
Together
As one
